DESCRIPTION

A controller Template to for Maschine Jam to use with the unmodified Maschine Sequencer Block.

I only used the upper part of the controller, so the lower part can be used for other stuff. An example is included where the touch faders are used for a drum mixer with pretty level feedback.

I laid out the channels in a single row so they can match with the faders. I also laid out the steps the way they usually work on Jam (ignoring the 1-16 markings).

All parameters are controlled with the encoder. To switch between Attribute Control, Steps, Fills and Rotate use the MST, Group, IN1 and Headphone buttons. Pressing the Encoder applies fills. I found this to be a very good workflow, better than using touch faders and an apply button.

I think Jam doesn't support the HSB colour mode that the Sequencer block uses, so colours are not applied as nicely as they could. Only the mute buttons show the right colours. A modification of the Sequencer block would be necessary to make it work with the colour indexing that Jam uses.

Edit: Also it's on channel 3, because thats apparently where the Sequencer always sends the feedback. So you need to set that up in the Connect panel of the block. Also a good idea to limit the block to the Maschine device there if you have other MIDI devices.

Hi Karl, since we are releasing the official MASCHINE Jam Sequencer today, I am going to adjust the title of your upload to "Maschine Jam Template for Maschine Sequencer". Thanks for your understanding!

the sequencers in reason or the new step sequencer in Logic 10.5. Real pity!! Anyway sorry for the long post I hope this thread will be revived!!

It's an old thread but anyway Karl thx very much for this modification. Maybe you or someone else can help me here. I can make this patch work with maschine jam if I enable both the midi input and output of maschine jam in reaktor. I have deactivated the maschine jam ports and I am trying to bridge these ports using intermediate apps (max or midi patchbay on osx). Unfortunately it doesn't work. The maschine jam midi input must be activated. I know almost nothing in Reaktor core building so I cannot really touch the maschine sequencer block. Is there somewhere there the maschine Jam midi input port hard coded or it has to something with non midi feedback from maschine jam. Any help would be really appreciated. I am using maschine jam for various tasks(controller for ableton or logic, max msp and others) and I want to be able to connect it to various applications without using its actual midi ports. And another question irrelevant question is about midi velocity. Can some modify maschine seq block to include midi velocity. I have done a simple modification and have connected the 8 gates of maschine sequencer to to plain midi out with selectable note pitch and velocity. if anyone is interested i can post it here or maybe as a new entry in the library. I am really surprised this thing didn't get further development form NI. They could have built a serious rival to sequencers like novations circuit if they added support for midi velocity and probability or even...

Thanks Karl! Working great in stand-alone. Looks even better if you colour code the faders to match the drums :) Quick question: how can I get it to work in the plug-in version (I'm running in Pro Tools). Even if I try to turn MIDI out on all control mappings and devices and set to Ch3 there's no MIDI getting back to the Jam. Cheers.

On the normal Maschine everything lights up nicely in the channel color. With a few changes to the Sequencer Block that should also be possible here.

Oh it already does that (or should). Maybe you need to change something in the MIDI Out part of the Connect panel. Set it to the Maschine Jam device and Channel 3. It should give you all the necessary feedback to use it without looking at the computer. Now in this version its not the prettiest, because it lights up the steps in red if they are activated, and also if its the currently playing step, if its both then it goes white. But its good enough.

It would be useful for maschine to show when a step is activated on the sequemcer. Pretty sure this can be accomplished by having reaktor midi out changes to the device as they occur. If that was possible you probably also make a step LED light up as they play in the sequence. These things would make the device functional without ever having to glance at your screen.

More controls over the touchbars would also be lovely. The Hybrid mode is OK for some stuff, like the mixer, but imagine what you could do if you could control each segment.

I don't have it either. What do you mean by step/position for each pattern? Simultaneously for multiple patterns? No. Thats why i think it would be a little work in the Maschine Sequencer to make it work like Jam's 16x4 mode. I've mapped your 16x4 bento seq mod (and now David Elson's Seren) for that. It's a shame that HWControl doesn't work with Maschine. In the meantime I've made a core macro to convert from blocks color picker (and 0-1 intensity) to a velocity value for the indexed color mode for the pads, but i would prefer to use the proper modules and have more control.

This is really useful. I don't have the original maschines but I assume they don't show step position/activation for each pattern? I wish there was a way to program reaktor to work with maschine beyond midi. Hardware control module works with komplete kontrol, hopefully they will add maschine support at some point!
