MIXING TRACKS USING SYNC

In this section, you’ll learn how to mix audio into your speakers and how to find a starting point (cue) for your track. Later, you’ll learn how to mix two tracks using TRAKTOR S2’s automated sync feature.

MIXING AUDIO IN

To start playback, press the PLAY button on the deck with the loaded track. Slowly move the slider up to the maximum position to hear your track playing on the speakers.

CHOOSING YOUR NEXT TRACK

The next track you want to mix will work best if it has a similar tempo to the first track. To load a track on the other deck, turn its BROWSE encoder, then press the BROWSE encoder to load the track.

CUEING

Now that the track has loaded, press the PLAY button to start playback. Now you should have two tracks playing but only hear one. At this point, you might want to pre-listen the next song to make sure it fits the track already playing. Put on your headphones and press the CUE button (so it’s on) next to the channel fader. Now adjust the headphones mixed, so that you will hear the cued track in the headphones.

SIGNAL FLOW INTRODUCTION

To gain a deeper understanding of what is happening here, take a look at the folowing signal flow chart. It shows how the audio signals coming from the two decks are mixed and routed to your headphones and the speakers.

SYNCING THE TRACKS

Keep both tracks playing. The tempo of the track you hear in your headphones is automatically synced to the first track - this is indicated by the lit SYNC button. Both tracks now play in sync.

MIXING IN A SECOND TRACK

To make both tracks audible in your speakers, slowly move the fader of the second deck upwards. The audio signal of the track fades into the master signal. Listen to your mix for a while and then move the first fader down. When the first fader is completely down, you will only be able to hear your second track meaning you have successfully mixed two tracks together!
