Reaktor 5 or lower

DESCRIPTION

This is my first synth with Reaktor, I'm a guitarist but wanted to dabble in the world of synths so I figured the best way to start learning synthesis would be to build one.
I chose the OSCar because Oxford, where it was first conceived, is close to my stomping ground, I also love the quirkiness of the design.
It's not a faithful recreation but I think I've captured some of the spirit of the original.
Thanks to all the people who help out on the forums and to those who write or record the tutorials, I'd be completely lost without such help.
The name is just for fun and a play on words, although I have used core macros there is a lot of primary in there too.

notes stop playing when you try to do a vibrato with a mono patch (with two keys), this is what puts me off most reaktor ensembles, is there a way around it?

Fantastic. I loved my OSCar, and this is very well done. Cheers.

Great ensemble! I am quite new to reaktor, and try to make my own preset. How to get more instability for fine tuning? And how to cut the release of the sound?

Steven - I recently found this via Computer Music in the UK, they gave you a nice writeup on recommended OSCar plug-ins. Sounds really nice. Now I have to see if I can write up some nice additional patches for this.

@Michael Degen Thanks, really nice to here that you're putting it to good use.

@Thomas Clement There is a randomiser but i isolated it to the harmonics, if you want it to effect other things just select the knob you want to randomise and under function unselect Mrph/Rnd Isolote checkbox.

I keep coming back to this ensemble. It's one of my faves. Thank you!!

Points for execution. I haven't hears an OSCar in forever, but this really does remind me of one. Two quibbles: not enough presets (by a long shot) and it would be nice if there was a randomizer (if there is one, I'm missing it).

Wish it had a lot more presets, but otherwise, PRIMO!

Thanks Steven. My fault. Had a feeling you needed time. If i had made this synth, one of the absolute best sounding synth in reaktor, then i would be precious about it. You deserve the credit. I will not take that away from you. Please see my comments it that light. I wanted to support you first af all. Also in the interest of the community. I hope you are allright. I wish you all the best. I am very grateful that you made this contribution. Also your synth dark matter sounds great. Thats very innovative too. I think you are talented. And i hope you find time to develope. Have a good life. Kind regards Lars

@ Lars Bo Hemansen No worries Lars, i'm having one of those days so forgive me. If you ever want to post your version of the synth feel free to do so, i'm not precious about it, and whatever is good for the community is good for me. I just haven't got the time to deal with all your comments, and they were coming so thick and fast that I was starting to get a bit stressed about it all.

I am sorry Steven, Was never my intention to be negative. And never my intention to find faults. I am very sorry if you feel that way. I still think this is a super an lovely synth. Maybe my entusiasm took over to much. And i will recomment it to everyone. Please forgive me. Kind regards

@ Lars Bo Hermansen it is what it is, done to the best of my abilities. Lots of people seem to like it, make music with it, faults and all and that's good enough for me. What I do is never going to be perfect, i haven't got the time, patience or academic training for it. So please stop with all this public dissection and fault finding, it's just not fair and has taken over what was once positive thread.

Hi Steven, Thanks for reply. You are quite right. I am not making negative critic. My suggestions is because i like the sound. I have discovered that a switch on glide save a kittle CPU. Also a change audio/ event signal in the OSC's pitch save quite much CPU. In a poly version i have tried to make, corrections in signal too. That to save a lot CPU. But can't do in in the mono version. Just to let you know, if you are interrested. I think it is funny in the harmonics module, that some input's are event and other audio signal. Do you know why? I actually do not make programming in reaktor. Maybe what i do is not right. But it works okay for me. I save up to 25% CPU. Maybe more can be saved. Again thank you very much for this delicious synth.

@ Lars Bo Hermansen I made this synth for it's quirky charms, it sounds the way it does because of its feature set. Having no velocity or polyphony doesn't mean that it is lacking in any way, quite the opposite, these things are what gives synth it's character and soul.

Hi again Steven, Forgot this thought. I know this thought is not in the spirit of keeping it original. But as i see it, then the duophonic feature in this version do not have to be in a polyphonic version. My thougt is, that the CPU will be a lot lower without the duophonic feature. I understand you will keep the mono version. This is just a thought. An option could be to choose between poly and mono if you got the CPU power. Also it is possible in a DAW e.g. to bounce. In that way the CPU load vanish after recording. Just some thoughts you maybe can use.

Hi Steven, Thanks for your reply. Sounds great. Look forward to adjustments and more presets. You'are right about the CPU in this version. I tried to make a polyphonic. Each additional voice eats the same CPU. Maybe there is a workaround. Also to add velocity even if both velocity and polophony is not in the original Oscar. But i understand you. It can be done some way. Thanks again. Also for your synth Dark Matter.

@ Lars Bo Hermansen Glad you like the synth, it's also great that you are modifying it to suit your own needs. When I get some time i'll see about making some adjustments and add some more presets. I won't be making a polyphonic version, I don't think it will be suited to that, plus it will send the cpu usage through the roof. I'm not sure if the OSCar was used by Pink Floyd, but I do know Utravox,Underworld, Kieth Emerson and Jean-Michel Jarre have used it to name a few.

Hi Steven, Solved. It's a pity the option to report to author is removed. So i write here. I have done a few changes in the lfo module. Now i can use the pitch mod and the intro function independent from the modwheel, and then with the modwheel add more lfo modulation. This is what is right i guess, Otherwise both a pitch amount in the wheel section and a pitch mod in the lfo section has no meaning. And the intro time knob has even more meaning too. The intro knob is also placed in the lfo section and not in the wheel section. Now my edition of your lovely synth in the lfo is doing what i reed in the reel oscars manual. I would send it to you if you like. But i can't. By the way this synth sound are in many ways beating minimoog. It's a wonder only 2000 was made. Did Pink Floyd use it? Thank you very much again. Hope you will develope further on this. I'm a novice.

Hi Steven Bateman, Thanks for this wonderfull synth. I wonder if if an error that all the lfo is dependent on the wheel? In the reel oscar manual it is written like some of the lfo possibilities is independent from the wheel. Would be nice if both possibilities was present. Also there maybe a little misbehavior when playing. Sometimes a note fall out if you don't hit a key totally clean. And ther is no retrigger either if you play a note before releasing the one before. Creecting thease things would make it more playable. Also the dual mode maybe has a little malfunction. I'm not sure. Otherwise this synth is perfect. Therefore it's a pitty that thease small thing that bug a little is present. The sound is outstanding keeping a solid and full bottom end. I hope you will change the above, and make your synth perfect. Also i will make two wishes. If you change this synth please make a polyphonic option or version too, even if the original is monophonic. Also make info on all knob's, and maybe some x-tra explanation on the harmonics section and the waveforms. For instance the 1 and 2 in the oscilators. Oh yes your special envelope repeat could need some info too. Anyway thank you very much. I just wish and hope.

SOunds very nice I don't know why though I can't automate the knobs. Most of the reaktor synths/effects have automation, so maybe you missed something?
