DESCRIPTION

Goniometers (or audio vector scopes) give usefull stereo/phase information and can be fascinating to watch.

Unable to find a good one in the library, I decided to make my own goniometer.
The excellent Goniometer from RME's DIGIcheck analysis tool was used as an example.

Additionally, stereo enhancement capabilities were added:
-Make mono sound stereo.
-Accurately orientate a sound in a mix.
-Stereo expander for mono or pure stereo.

Details:
I started with the 'LR phase meter' macro from Metaphysical Function for the Goniometer and Stereo maker.
This macro was modified (view turned 45 degrees/improved click&drag) to comply more with what you actually hear and control.
Like in Digicheck's Goniometer, Automagic Gain Control is used to keep full view (Limelite's 'NORM' macro was modified for this purpose).

Click and drag over the scope (OR over X/Y values) to control the Stereo Maker.
This is achieved by changing phase between L and R using 1-Pole Allpass modules.

When Pole is set to 1:
(X=0,Y=1 has no effect)
(X=0,Y=-1 invert phase)
(X=1;-1,Y=0 out of phase)

Increase stereo complexity with pole parameter.
Use the angle parameter to control the sound orientation.
The expander can be used to control the amount of stereo.

Increase Sample Rate to obtain continuous lines.

Enjoy!

Lifesaver. Thank you. I was looking for a replica of Digicheck's goniometer and this comes the closest. Thank you so much!

Exactly what I wanted, thanks!

Rainer, the stereo enhancer is purely based on controlling phase differences between L and R. With X,Y you control which frequencies are controlled. If you add or substract L and R with the expander parameter, it is possible to enhance frequencies or indeed even cancel frequencies. Note that the stereo capabilities are only intended to maximize the effect a sound can have on the goniometer (and thus all stereo information!) and not act like an instrument.

stereotwin: cool but : it takes some high frequencies out of the mix.
