DESCRIPTION

Update 6. Added 55 new patches. Improved the sound of AM used, and added AM inputs to the Dual LFO, Orrery, and Pulse OSC. Added a unipolar switch to the Dual OSC. Added unipolar outputs to the Dual LFO, Pulse OSC, and LPG. Altered the Envelope's auxiliary envelope so it is now affected by modulation.

Bloodlines is a monophonic modular synth inspired by the comic book Attack on Titan. It is made from a number of new modules, with unique top / bottom patch port designs.

It includes 173 Rack file presets inspired by the comic, and 175 categorized as synths, sound effects, drums, or noise.

To install this instrument, the "Bloodlines Modules" folder must be copied to your Blocks folder, and the "Bloodlines Racks" folder needs to be copied to your Racks folder. Please see the included "Read Me" file for detailed installation instructions.

This was made to be a versatile instrument which can be played with a midi keyboard, the built in sequencer, or both.

It excels at complex melodic leads, distorted basses, and strange generative sequences. Its sound can evoke feelings of horror and hopelessness, the intensity of aerial battle, or the thrill of victory.

It features graphic backgrounds of two of my favorite Attack on Titan characters, Levi and Mikasa, the two surviving descendants of the powerful Ackerman bloodline. More images from the comic can be found within the structure view, but be careful, these contain spoilers!

Patching this instrument is easy and fun. Inputs are marked with blue labels, and outputs are marked with white labels.

Tone generation can be achieved by routing noise or another sound through one of the two resonant filters, or with one of the three included oscillators. These include a self modulating dual oscillator, a pulse generator, and a sine / saw auxiliary oscillator.

A unique quintuple envelope module, a dual LFO, and an interesting sequencer are provided for modulation. The sequencer uses probability to easily create variety with gate and CV sequences.

Eight VCAs can be used for attenuating signals, and a three channel mixer is provided for combining them. Wavefolding and Thrash-buffer style distortions are available for voltage mashing, and a pair of delays are included for adding ambience.

Many additional processing options exist within the "Utilities" Block. These are mostly automatic, with no editable parameters. Simply route your signal through the inputs and outputs to perform the process. These include essential tasks such as mixing, mirroring, absolute value, sample and hold, ring modulation, and clipping.

A and B style Blocks modulation is available, with sources shared throughout all the modules. This helps cut down on wire clutter. The inputs for these modulators are found on the "Note In" Block, and the buttons to enable the mod sliders are found on the "Output" Block.

All audio should eventually be routed to the "Output" Block. This Block is hardwired with its own two channel mixer, panning modules, Metaverb style reverb, gain, color, and clipping effects.

Thank you to Benjamin Poddig for his ZDF Ladder filter and DPW oscillator designs.
Thank you to Michael Hetrick for the diode style ring modulator.
Thank you to Colugo_ for Thrasher.
Thank you to Sandy Small for Orrery.
Thank you also to everyone on the forums that helped me make improvements.

I don't usually go for synths that seem to have endless options. They make my head spin. But THIS! This really is superb work, Brett. This'll be hours and hours of fun. Plus, it looks smashing!

Updated 9/19 with 35 new snapshots and new features. Added XOR outputs to the dual oscillator, dual LFO, and Orrery modules. Added summed outputs to the envelope generator. Added an additional FM input to the dual osc, and an additional ping input to the LPG. Added highpass filtering and bias switches to the output module. Fixed the reset feature on the dual LFO, it will now properly ignore gates when the reset switch is off. Improved the sample and hold feature, it will now hold its value until a new gate is received.

Updated 9/15 with new snapshots. I also fixed an error in the auxiliary envelope. Its sustain parameter will now properly function.

Lovely set, thanks! Love that there are modulation inputs for each parameter.

Please delete your files from previous downloads before installing, since some presets were renamed to conform with a new organizational scheme. This will prevent duplicate files and ensure the presets will be listed in the proper order.

An additional envelope has been added to the envelope module. This "Auxiliary" envelope uses the four time controls to determine its attack, decay, sustain, and release settings. This gives the instrument a more conventional ADSR type envelope to work with.

Updated 9/9/2020 Fixed an error with the filter's key tracking. It will now properly toggle between on and off instead of negative and positive. Fixed an error with the LFO's reset feature. Added 43 new presets.

Each envelopes have two controls, one changes the envelope mode, the other increases the envelope time. Connect a gate signal to an envelope’s gate input, and then use the corresponding output to route your signal to another module. Additional CV inputs allow you to modulate envelope time and mode using external signals. I will make a more detailed help document and hopefully a tutorial video in the future. Thank you for the feedback.

I don't understand some of these modules, eg the quad envelope, is there documentation?

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. I have done a quick update, improving the compatibility with Komplete Kontrol hardware. Now the Racks will be properly categorized into their own Sub-Bank, Bloodlines Racks.
