GranuLaayerr
Granular synthesis + physical modeling in one instrument
DESCRIPTION
*Important: mute mixer channels linked to GranuLaayerr before saving your projects because it triggers on opening the project and might cause hearing damage!*
GranuLaayerr has 2 main modules - "Granules" and "Laayerr", and 2 additive ones - EQ with 3 peaks, HP/LP and LS/HS; and a basic Sequencer (part of Granules). Also options to additionally modify stereo/mono, pan, pitch and master volume on output.
1.Granules is the granular part and acts more like an advanced sampler offering possibilities to:
- Randomize pitch (from 'pitch variator' section and if you feel adventurous try the little -24/+24 knob which will slide the pitch you play towards the set direction up to +/-24 semitones);
- Choose and/or randomize sample position
- Choose and/or randomize sample lenght
- Choose playback direction
- Set attack and decay times in ms
- Choose the sample you want to play from 15 available slots*
- Adjust gain for the sample playback
*after dropping a new sample in the window - you need to select it from the dropdown menu (if you have a sample on 'Sample 1' and drop a new one over it, it will go to slot 2 /Sample 2/ which you need to choose from the menu and the first one will remain on the first slot and so on)
**Sequencer can be turned on/off from the field just next to the sample view window: you can slide or type the time in ms and also randomize time values by switching 'Time randomness' on and set an amplitude for it.
2. Laayerr is the delay module adjusted to easily apply physical modeling after Granules*:
- Feedback range is 50%-100%
- Dry/wet goes from 100% dry to 100% wet through anything in between**
- Time knob goes from 0 to 223.6ms**
*there is a limiter in the macro right after the delay so don't be afraid to use it to maximum feedback and minimum delay time
**it can also work as a delay module or something in between of delay and phisical modeling, depending on how you adjust those two
3. Equalizer is linked after Laayerr with three peaks, low pass, high pass, low shelf and high shelf filters which all can be turned on/off separately
- There is a volume fader for the output of the EQ module on its right side
From the top right and top left corners you can:
- Set master volume from "Master"knob (top right)
- Set final pitch octave with -8/+8 range from "Octaves" slider (top right)
- Set stereo width from the slider right below Octaves - slides through everything from 100% inverted stereo (all the way to the left) through Mono in the middle to 100% stereo all the way to the right. Default value is Mono to set it easily if you need to. (top right)
- Set Pan from left to right. (top left)
- Randomize Pan. (top left)
If you need help while trying it out for the first time - turn on "info" button on Reaktor and read the pop-ups for guidance what does what. Hovering your mouse over the sections around the knobs will give you a short description about the module it hosts in the area (as well as the 'handwritten' names over the area).
.zip contains the ensamble (GranuLaayerr ensamble) plus a couple of presets you can try, however it still depends a lot on the sample you choose to use.
